Placards, banners, signs, videos, skits and art demonstrations, musical presentation, and brochures were used to share this information. Information booths were provided by Office of the National Rapporteur for Trafficking in Persons, Victims Support Services and Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities and Office of the Children’s Advocate. The project held a Montego Bay Town Hall Meeting on November 23, 2016 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, under the theme of “Our Dreams for a Better Jamaica”. This meeting was a culmination of 39 civic responsibility workshops held island-wide in response to the evidence of declining support for our system of governance, rising criminality and unacceptable social behaviour. These workshops aimed to educate people about civic responsibility and to remind us that we as citizens need to take ownership in order to achieve our desired social, economic and political goals. CAMPUS WIDE Community Service PROJECTS Western Campus We remain true to the mission of the University by spearheading various initiatives in service to communities within the region. They included interventions made as follows: y y Montego Bay “Dump-Up” Beach Clean-Up: Over 20 volunteers from the University of Technology Association of Nursing and Midwifery students (UTANS) organised a Beach Clean-up In September 2016. y y Commit tee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI) Come Run: 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk: Volunteers from The Caribbean School of Nursing were in demand and provided nursing services for the CUMI Walk/Run held in September 2016 at Tryall Club, Hanover. This is an annual fundraiser in aid of the services provided by CUMI which caters for the needs of the mentally ill and homeless. y y Kiwanis Club Annual Diabetes Health Fair, Montego Ba: In November 2016, attendees to the health fair benefitted from a series of health checks conducted by a team from the Caribbean School of Nursing. y y Mustard Seed Children’s Home Sacred Heart, Adelphi, St. James: The UTANS students closed off their activities for the financial year Acting President, Prof. Colin Gyles (right) greets Hon.
