Manufacturers Association (JMA) /Jamaica Exporters Association (JEA) Expo held April 14-17, 2016 at the National Arena. The trade show provided the opportunity for us to engage a large cross section of our target audience throughout the three days. UTech, Jamaica’s exhibit comprised elements from the Faculty of Engineering and Computing (FENC), the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM), the Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership (JDSEEL) and GEOTECH (a start-up company based in the Technology Innovation Centre). The crowd pullers at the show were the SHTM cooking demonstration on the Hydrogen Gas stove (an innovation out of FENC), laser, plasma and 3D cutting equipment and drone technology. Among the many thousand visitors to our booth were business and civic leaders, The Hon. Ruel Reid, Minister of Education, Youth and Information and The Hon. Robert Montague the Minister of National Security. Several hundred companies and individuals provided their contact details to get additional information (prices, specifications) on using the cutting-edge technologies in FENC as well as on our short courses and various degree programmes. Advertising: A total of 278 print advertisements were booked for the period, of which 111 were designed internally. The electronic advertisements booked included 5 outside radio broadcasts, 1,702 30-second radio spots and 166 TV spots. The results from our on-line advertising ef for ts are 2,162,402 impressions (the number of times the advertisement is seen) and 2,342 click-throughs (times people visited UTech’s website from the ad). During his visit the Ambassador and Prof. Gyles discussed opportunities for partnerships and for mutual engagement between the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica and the University. His Excellency was also taken on a campus tour which included the Technology, Innovation Centre (TIC) Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership (JDSEEL), the Caribbean Sculpture Park and the sport facilities.
