The following wellness activities were coordinated under the 2016/2017 review period: y y Swimming Sessions by UTech, Jamaica Swimming Coaches y y Exercise Sessions by the 225 Club y y Dance Fitness by ArabesK Dance Collective y y Wear Yellow for Endometriosis Awareness in conjunction with Base Jamaica y y Mammograms and Pap Smear (Cancer Screening) in conjunction with Jamaica Cancer Society y y HIV/AIDS Awareness Testing in conjunction with National Family Planning Board y y Relax and Rejuvenate Massage Sessions y y NHF “Work It Out” Challenge 2016 – Weight Loss Competition for Workplaces y y Total Body Fitness Boot Camp in conjunction with College of Health Sciences Wellness Centre y y Seven Days Healthy Eating Challenge y y Nutritional Consultation in conjunction with College of Health Sciences y y Creative Wellness: Basic Sewing Classes: Fashionable Start to Sewing in conjunction with Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies y y Visual Care (Eye Examinations) in conjunction with South Optical Jamaica y y Stress Buster Activities ( including healthy treats from Tutti Frutti) Recognizing Achievements University Annual Awards The University held its 46th Annual Awards Ceremony on May 27, 2016 under the theme “Reflecting on the Past, Charting a Dynamic and Exciting Future”. One hundred and twenty-seven employees were recognized for their long and distinguished service to the University ranging from 10 to 40 years, while UTASU, UTASA and UAWU made presentations to selected members for outstanding service to their institutions. Special President’s awards were presented to staff who had distinguished themselves in the areas of Community Service, Customer Service, and in the Administrative, Ancillary and Technical categories. The award for Innovation was presented to the Calvin McKain Library, and the award for Excellence in Research was presented to Professor Fitzroy Henry from the College of Health Sciences. The Special Recognition Award was presented to Grace Kennedy Foundation for assisting the University in achieving its mission through funding scholarships and bursaries for students since the academic year 2004/05, and Mrs. Vanetta Skeete, Senior Lecturer, College of Business & Management, was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of Prof. Colin Gyles, the then Acting President presents Mrs. Vanetta Skeete, Senior Lecturer, Course Coordinator and Associate Head of the School of Business Administration in the College of Business and Management with her citation for the Distinguished Service Award. The citation lauded Mrs. Skeete for “dedication and tenacity” and “exceptional leadership” in the School.
