The aims and objectives of the society inter alia are to recognise and encourage excellence in various aspects of the student’s life. Students will be encouraged to maintain high academic standards and to display their academic work ethic in non-academic pursuits including service to the community. The Society will also facilitate and encourage personal development of the inductees in areas such as self-esteem, confidence, and knowledge of the world and to provide opportunities to develop business professionalism and to network with alumni and other industry practitioners. JDSEEL Annual Lecture The 3 rd Annual Joan Duncan Memorial Lecture was held on June 1, 2016 in the Courtyard of the JDSEEL/TIC. The topic for the lecture was “Mining Gold! How do we Monetize Jamaica’s Music Success”? Guest speakers were Mr Lloyd Stanbury , entertainment lawyer and Mr Josef Bogdanovich, CEO of Downsound Records. Panellists were: Mr Paul Barclay, Chairman, Jamaica Association of Composers and Publishers (JACAP) Mr Michael “Ibo” Cooper, musician and senior lecturer at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts and Mr Robert Scott, Vice President, Export and Marketing, JAMPRO. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr Dennis Howard, musicologist. A large and diverse audience participated actively in the post-panel discussion. Entrepreneurial Ventures JDSEEL students were actively involved in startup businesses over the past year. Organic Branches has produced Jamaica’s first seasoned coconut oil which has received DBJ funding of Five Students inducted into the COBAM Honour Society pose with their certificates.
