University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 66 Excellence Through Knowledge The Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies (FELS), through the School of Technical and Vocational Education (SOTAVE), produces quality teachers and trainers in technical specializations. SOTAVE offers programmes in Family and Consumer Studies, Industrial Technology, and Business and Computer Studies. In addition, through its School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), the Faculty provides learning experiences that foster critical and creative thinking, a heightened awareness and practice of professionalism and the development of skills in effective communication and social learning. The BA in Communication Arts and Technology offered through SHSS offers the most comprehensive communication and media training programme locally. The Unit delivers modules focused on building skills in journalism, marketing and public relations within this digitized world. Students are exposed to the three phases of production: pre-production (e.g. writing for print/web/radio/screen, creative writing, workflow customization, event coverage planning, etc.); production (public speech, photography, videography, digital audio, web design, animation, etc.); and post-production (non-linear video editing, digital image editing, sound and visual effects, etc.). SCHOOL OF TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (SOTAVE) Teaching Practicum Exercises 2015-2016 Post moderation exercise for final year teaching practicum exercises were held on Friday, May 20, 2016. Of the 130 students who completed the exercise, only two received an overall failing grade. 2016-2017 The first year student teaching observation exercises took place from 10-14 October 2016. Third year students were exposed to the team teaching exercises over the period 31 October - 11 November 2016.
