The School of Computing and Information Technology emerged as the leading regional institution following their participation in the 4th international 24-Hour Extreme Programming Competition of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE Xtreme) held on Thursday, October 22 2016. UTech, Jamaica is currently ranked at 390 out of 2000 Universities in the world standing for 2016, moving up 900 places from their previous ranking in 2015. QE II Scholars 2016/17 In August 2016, Rasheed Andrews and Michael Thompson-Hall were awarded the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee scholarships to Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada. Mr Andrews is currently pursuing an MSc in Business Analytics, while Mr Thompson-Hall is pursuing a Masters in Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The programme represents a part of a Canadian $300,000 grant aimed at human capacity development and research within the areas of Data Sciences and Technology Entrepreneurship. On completion of these degrees, the candidates are expected to return to SCIT as Faculty members. SCIT MSc Information Manage- ment Systems student wins 2016/17 Universal Service Fund Scholarship Abraham Lindo is the 2016/17 awardee for the Universal Service Fund scholarship. This is a competitive scholarship award granted every 18 months for an incoming MSc Information Management System’s student. Mr Lindo is the second recipient of the award. SCIT Student Research project awards 2017 The School of Computing and Information Technology launched a research incentive scheme through a school research poster competition. The competition was sponsored by the private sector. Student projects were assessed for research significance, application to industry, and potential for societal impact. Award winners were showcased as a part of the annual University’s Research Day event, which took place March 31 2017. SAPNA Launches Job application system The Career & Job Placement Management System is an Enterprise System that manages all of the administrative processes necessary for hosting a successful Career & Job Placement Fair. Students and companies can create and manage profiles and complete and submit applications online. Students can create and manage their profiles and CVs for companies to view.
