University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 79 Excellence Through Knowledge their support for the Faculty in its efforts to lobby for a change in the existing law regarding external students entering the Norman Manley Law School. The matter is to be referred to the Bruce Golding-led CARICOM Committee to lobby for amendments to the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas as it relates to the Council of Legal Education. The University is carefully reviewing approaches and the strategies to be adopted in order to address the inequalities that currently obtain with respect to students accessing further legal education. CCJ Mooting Competition The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Mooting Competition was held on March 10, 2017 in Trinidad & Tobago. The FOL team was accompanied by Mr Alfred McPherson, Dean. The team received commendation for their performance. The students expressed appreciation for being afforded the opportunity to represent the University and to interact with eminent jurists and their counterparts within the region. Faculty Awards Ceremony Prof. Kent Pantry, CD, QC and Prof. Oswald Harding, OJ, CD, QC, PhD, former Deans of the Faculty of Law, were honoured at the Faculty’s Annual Students Awards Ceremony held on April 7, 2016 at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel under the theme “Aligned for Excellence… Equipped for Service”. The Guest Speaker was the Hon. Mrs Zaila McCalla, Chief Justice. Hon. Zaila McCalla, OJ, (centre) Chief Justice of Jamaica shares in congratulating outstanding Faculty of Law, Student of the Year awardees, Miss Ann-Marie Moore - Papine Campus and Mr. Jason Chockela - Western Campus following the Faculty’s annual Awards Ceremony held on April 7, 2016 at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel in Kingston.
