University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Page 80 Excellence Through Knowledge The Faculty of Science and Sport (FOSS) comprises the School of Natural and Applied Sciences (SONAS), the School of Mathematics and Statistics (SOMAS), the Caribbean School of Sport Sciences (CSOSS), and the Centre for Science-based Research, Entrepreneurship and Continuing Studies (CSRECS). Together these entities provide educational opportunities, research, and consultancy services related to the application of science and technology to the educational, industrial, business, health and sport sectors. The Faculty offers courses of study at both undergraduate and graduate levels and delivers science, mathematics and sport elective modules for all courses of study across the University. The Faculty delivers seven (7) undergraduate courses of study and three (3) Postgraduate courses of study. Conferences 6 th Annual Caribbean Conference on Sport Science The 6th Annual Caribbean Conference on Sport Science was held on Friday, April 8, 2016 under the theme, “Caribbean Integration and Sport Sciences: Global Perspectives, Regional Challenges,” at the Papine campus. Keynote speaker at the Opening Ceremony was Dr. Frank McCormack, orthopaedic surgeon at the SOAR Institute, Florida, USA where he is a specialist in outpatient sports medicine, cartilage/meniscal/ stem cell transplantation, joint preservation, and arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder hip and knee. The aim of the annual conference is to promote professionalism in the sporting industry, to share new and revised information related to sports, to create a deeper appreciation for sport education and to explore the connection between physical activity and health. 4 TH Scientific Conference The Faculty’s 4 th International Scientific Conference was held July 20 – 21, 2016 at the Papine campus under the theme, “Science Caribbean School of Sport Sciences School of Natural and Applied Science School of Mathematics and Statistics Centre for Science-Based Research, Entrepreneurship and Continuing Studies Department of Sport Dr. Kamilah Hylton Dean Faculty of Science and Sport
