Dr Lamm serves as Senior Expert along with Mr Rhoen Kerr (Mico University). Graduate Studies Mr O’Brien Brown became the Faculty’s first successful MPhil graduate Mr O’Brien Brown receives his MPhil Chemistry degree from Dr. Elaine Wallace, University Registrar at the 2016 graduation ceremony. SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS, FOSS Academic Programmes The School of Mathematics & Statistics, UTech (SOMAS) and Church Teachers’ College in Mandeville continue their collaboration to offer the MSc in Mathematics Teaching. The MSc Mathematics Teaching was reviewed by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) in preparation for Accreditation Specialised offerings The School of Mathematics and Statistics continues to offer the Foundation Mathematics in collaboration with the UTech Academy. In collaboration with the Office of Distant Learning, the College of Health Sciences, and the School of Business Administration SOMAS offers an Online delivery of College mathematics 1A , Calculus for Social Sciences and Biostatistics. Linkages The BSc Applied Statistics students were accepted for internship at The Statistical Institute of Jamaica, Office of the Children Registry(OCR), Ministry of Transport and Mining Road Safety Unit. DEPARTMENT OF SPORT Partnership/Sponsorship The Department partnered with several groups to help build and promote sports in Jamaica as well as to promote the university as a venue for staging national events. The partnership was limited to providing various sports facilities at reduced rated. These included special rates or waived fee arrangements with the UTech, Ja. HR Wellness Programme, Table Tennis Jamaica, NEPA, Netball Jamaica, Jamaica Badminton Association (JBA), Jamaica Cheer Federation (JCF) and CM Sports. The total number of internal and external applications processed for the use of the sports facilities within the specified period was 184, which is approximately 5% lower than 2016. This figure does not include regularly scheduled activities such as electives, sports management classes, intercollegiate and interfaculty training and competitions, and recreational activities.
