University of Technology, Jamaica “Pioneering Past; Bright Future ” ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018 69 • Miss Shalawah Barnes, Miss Serica Swaby and Miss Deidre-Ann Morris, students within the School were three of fifteen recipients of the UTech Foundation Scholarships and Bursaries valued at $3.3M. The scholarship funds were formally presented to President, Professor Stephen Vasciannie by Foundation Chairman Mr Eric Crawford on March 2, 2018. The scholarship funds will assist with tuition and other related school expenses for the academic year 2017/18. • Baking Technology students, Sophia Nelson and Renard Raymond were awarded scholarships under the Jamaica Flour Mills Foundation and the Hart/Jacobs Scholarship Programme on November 2, 2017. • Thirteen (13) students (eleven from the Papine campus and two from the Western campus) participated in the KPMG 2018 Internship Programme from January 15 to April 30, 2018. The programme provided an opportunity for the students to gain exposure to the practical aspects of work in auditing, accounting, tax, finance and related subjects. Outstanding Staff Achievement • Chef Khalil Campbell was selected to represent the Jamaica Culinary Federation at the Taste of the Caribbean Show in Miami, Florida, held from June 1 to 8, 2017. • Chef Karl Thomas was assigned chef for the World Championship training camp for the Jamaican delegation in London, July 24 to August 4, 2017. • Mrs Nadine Lynch-Clarke, Administrative Support and Mrs Sharon Roach, College Administrator shared the President’s Award for Innovation at the annual University Awards ceremony Special Events • The School of Business Administration, hosted a panel discussion on November 15, 2017, at the Papine Campus under the theme: ‘Assessing the Effects of Crime on Jamaica’s Economy”.
