T H E UN I V E R S I T Y OF TE CHNO L OGY , J AMA I CA – ST UD E NT HANDBOOK 2025– 2026 11 . 1. 5 The VP and (CHRO for matter relating to staff)/ or Registrar for matter relating to students) must conduct periodic follow-up to ensure that after the internal mechanism procedures, the behavior has ceased. 11 . 1. 6 In the event the dispute is not resolved with the 28 days period, the complainant can choose to access the formal complaint procedures. A student or employee will not be required to exhaust informal attempts or engage the Informal Procedure to resolve a matter before choosing to engage the Formal Procedure. 11. 2. 4 The VP and (CHRO for matter relating to staff)/ or Registrar for matter relating to students) should convey the allegations to the respondent whether by electronic means or otherwise, within two days of receipt of the sexual harassment claim. 1 1 . 2. 5 The respondent is given 48 hours, or such time as is agreed to respond or defend against the allegations. 1 1 . 2. 6 The VP and (CHRO for matter relating to staff)/ or Registrar for matter relating to students) must provide a report within 14 days, to the Sexual Harassment Dispute Settlement Committee for review and recommendations. If there is a dispute over facts, the claim should be investigated by the committee and statements taken from the witnesses and other evidence collected. 11 . 2. 7 Failing some intervening factor, (for example illness of one of the parties,) that affects the progress of the investigation, a reasonable effort shall be made to have the investigations concluded within twenty-eight (28) days and a written report of the findings submitted to the President and the VP with responsibility for Legal and Compliance, or to the Registrar and the VP with responsibility for Legal and Compliance, where the report is against the President. 11 . 2. 8 The University’s response should indicate: 11. 2 Formal 11.2.1 11 . 2. 2 Any member of management mentioned at Section 10.1.1 or 10.2.1 above who receives a report of sexual harassment must ensure that it is escalated without delay. 11 . 2. 3 The VP and (CHRO for matter relating to staff)/ or Registrar for matter relating to students)/ will be responsible to ensure that the report is investigated, unless the report is against the VP and CHRO, or Registrar in which case the President will assign someone else to undertake the investigation. i. whether or not the investigations have validated the report; ii. the corrective action taken/to be taken, where the report has been found to be true; and 269
